Yupoo shipping: how consolidation keeps the freight from eating the order
Shipping is the largest variable cost in a Yupoo order, and the one most first-timers budget wrong. Here is how the lines differ and when to consolidate instead of sending.

There are two legs, not one
Leg one is domestic: seller to agent warehouse. It is cheap, fast, and sometimes free. Leg two is international: warehouse to your door. That is where the money and the risk are, and it is the leg you control by choosing a line and a moment to ship.
Actual weight versus volumetric weight
Carriers charge whichever is greater: the number on the scale, or the box volume divided by a divisor (typically 5000 or 6000 in cm³/kg). A down jacket weighs almost nothing and displaces a lot of air, which makes it expensive. A pair of sneakers in a box is heavy and compact.
The practical consequences: consolidation helps dense items, hurts bulky ones, and rewards asking the warehouse to drop the shoebox if you do not collect them.
Choosing a line
Fast lines cost per kilogram and arrive in a week. Economy lines take three weeks and cost roughly half. There is no universally right answer: a single heavy coat justifies the economy line; a small ordered batch for an event justifies the fast one.
Customs, declarations and honesty
Declared value is a legal document. Under-declaring is fraud and is also the fastest way to lose a parcel in a random inspection. Budget duty and VAT as real costs — in the EU, expect import VAT plus any duty above your local threshold; in the UK and US, thresholds differ and change.
Ask your agent which line is DDU versus DDP, because "the price of shipping" means something different depending on whether duties are collected at the door.
Freight behaves like a fixed cost, not a percentage
The calculator below is a planning tool. You enter every rate; nothing here is a quote, and the numbers do not include duty unless you add it yourself.
- 2 legs
- domestic then international
- greater of
- actual vs volumetric
- 1 parcel
- beats two small ones
What a landed cost is made of
| Layer | Charged by | Typical surprise |
|---|---|---|
| Goods | CNY price × quantity | Currency conversion rate used by the agent |
| Handling | Per order or per parcel | Minimum fees on small orders |
| Domestic leg | Per kg or included | Free-shipping thresholds that never apply to you |
| International | Greater of actual and volumetric weight | Box volume on bulky items |
| Duty and VAT | Your country’s rules | Assume it is a certainty, not a risk |
Asked most about this guide
When should I consolidate instead of shipping?
When you are below the weight break-point for the line and can wait. Consolidation turns two half-parcels into one efficient one.
Can I remove shoeboxes?
Usually yes, and it can change the volumetric number materially. Ask before the parcel closes.
Do batteries change anything?
Yes. Lithium cells restrict which lines will carry the parcel. Check before ordering electronics.
